Hi,

I'd like to get some sounds running in my bus as their currently missing.
To do this I'm going to need to fit an ISO loom to the busses electric system.

The looms and the DIN support unit's are fairly cheep (about a £10 for both from Maplin) and I've been quoted £40 to fit the ISO Loom. Does that sound like a reasonable price, and if not has anyone tried to fit these this themselves? How trickey are they to fit?

Do you recommend getting a pro to look at it, or am I just being a big wuss and should get on with it? Wink

Cheers.

hello mate i fitted iso loom thingy in our beetle all you need to do is follow the instrution's there quite easy to follow
we brought a new stereo and they came with them walfdale from argos

on my bug all you need is
1 a perment live this is for the memory (use a test light or volt meter)
2live when the ignition is switched on (same again use a test light or meter)
3 earth
4 ariel
5 then just leaves speakers this is a process of illmination if ther not labeled by adjusting the balance/fader you can see which speakers come on

all you need then is some eletric connectors

ifound i needed to extend the live feed wires so a couple of striaght connector will be handy it sound a long process but i fitted it in about ten mins but once you have fitted the iso once nearly all stereos fit so its easy to change or up grade hope this helps cheers louis

Cheers Louis.
Thats really useful mate. Smile

I agree that the speaker are pretty straight forward, I'm just a bit nervous about playing about with the power! Wink

A couple of questions I've still got though.
Did you run all those power wires direct from the fuse box, or did you join these connections into existing wires?

And did you have to buy extra wire for the power, I've seen connectors in Maplin but I'm not sure if the ISO plug would reach the radio if I just used those wires.

Laters.

hello again i was lucky enough to have spare connections on the fuse box

another way is to run a live wire direct from the battery and join the memory and the live together but fit a in line fuse not realy recomened as this will drain the battery if you have a standby on the stereo

are you just replacing a existing stereo ? if so you should have a least one live there this means your only need one more

i think halfords sell the wire by the meter so you only need enough to run from fuse box to the back of the stereo area x 2 in a beetle about 1m will do both connections

cheers louis

Thanks again Louis. Smile

I've not had a chance to dig around in the fuse box yet, but I'll give that a look tomorrow. There used to be a radio in there and there is an old style plug under the dash, but thoughtfully the old owner cut the +'ve and -'ve wires and just left the speakers connected... Rolling Eyes

He also rivited a panel over the radio opening to secure his old radio to... got some drilling ahead of me i think...

I've got the haynes out and I found an entry in there last night that just said use either fuse 8 (I think) which is spare and for a radio or run it off the headlamp loom... I'll break out the Multimeter when I get home and try and find a constant live for the memory from the fb. If not by the sounds of things it doesn't need it.

Cheers again for your help mate. Halfords here I come... Wink
